Transadapting fable into a parable for Indonesian Muslim children: Strategies and impacts

The demand for domestication and localization of children’s literature compels translators to not only translate the texts but also transadapt them. Significant problems arise when have fit cultures religions target users. This qualitative study attempts address this issue. Gathering teachers Taman Pendidikan Al Qur’an (TPQ) or club Muslim children in Greater Boyolali area Indonesia, translators, TPQ students a Focus Group Discussion, we investigated strategies transadapting fables English into Bahasa Indonesia with Islamic values as core teaching along impacts ensued. Through FGD constructed based on purification strategy by Klingberg (1986), translation adaptation selection Gengshen (2003), picturebook Oittinen (2000), narrative connectedness Christman (2004), proairetic decoding Nikolajeva (2010), skopos Reiss Vermeer (2014), paratextualization, insertion, bleaching are constructed.
